Painting by Aralyn Hughes Aralyn Hughes

I have always looked at life as a Fiesta and think now that is how I paint   I love  color and putting color on or in things.  As a child in the 50’s, I remember painting all the neighbors white wall tires with mostly primaries, then adding a little green I moved on to their garage doors.  Boy did I love those checkerboard ones.  That white was gone in a NY minute as we use to say in Oklahoma.    I returned in glory to my home after the décor changes and shortly heard my Mom yelling my full name.  You  know what that means. I was soon with a bucket of soapy water scrubbing away as my parents and neighbors looked on.    Of course it was to little avail  and I never asked what my parents had to do to make peace with the neighbors.

I never have liked white.  When I am ready to die, enter a hospital nursing home, or god forbid an asylum, the white will be just fine.  But for now, let’s live life like a fiesta.  The walls of my home are chartreuse, red, green, and purple with accents of all the other color, hot pink, gold, coral, and turquoise.  My frig and microwave are red.  The walls of my office are hot pink.  I have a mural in the bath, purple faux marble on the walls and windows with a view that takes you away and wonder if anyone is looking inside. Recently I collaged my Formica counter tops with broken earrings, glitter, saved postcards and photos.  Then I  poured clear resin on top and now have a one of a kind countertop.  .   A visitor said my house looked like a big jewelry box.  Gaudy to some but to me, it’s home.

My calling is to entertain and I do that by who I am and hopefully by what I paint. I have brought color back in my travels to Cuba, Russia, Turkey, Mexico, Hawaii, Thailand and Australia/New Zealand  Presently I have a trip planned to India.  My work is bold, twisted, unpredictable, off the wall, and with lots of color.  Layers of paint put on by hand, brush, rag, cardboard, or toothbrush and sometimes I just throw it on.  I have a lot of energy and I think it shows in my work.  When I am not painting, I play with my pet pig, drive my hot pink pig art car with a wheel barrow on the top, and market and sell houses as a Real Estate Broker, Aralyn & Associates. I am Piggish on real estate.  The pig and I share a studio in Clarksville. Our email address is aralyn@aralyn.com.    You can see the pig and me in the Chronicle real estate section every week.  A visit to my gallery will make your day. It has most all my art paintings on it.  Don’t miss it!
